Is there a floodplain on my property?
You can get an initial idea of whether your property might have a flood plain by checking it on the map with the following steps. First, click on the link above. Second, at the left hand side of the screen, you'll see several layers that can be added to this GIS map. Click on the fifth link from the top, which is labeled "FEMA Flood Zone Overlay". Note that when you make the FEMA Flood Zone Overlay active, portions of the map are highlighted red and orange. Those are the potential FEMA flood zones. Third, the title at the top left corner of the map is "Land Information Map, Powered by Tallahassee - Leon County GIS." There's a search box below the words "Powered by Tallahassee". Enter the address of the property that you're checking and click return. Depending on your connection, it may take up to a minute or so for the map to zoom in to your property. Third, once the map zooms in to your site, any potential flood zones will be highlighted red or orange. Please note that these red and orange areas are only potential FEMA flood zones. This map simply shows FEMA's approximation of where the agency thinks a flood plain may be located in this area. The applicant must complete an engineering analysis to delineate the actual flood elevation on their property.
