What boards have final approval on land use decisions and do they occur in public meetings?
The review bodies that Growth Management works with are listed below. All meetings are advertised public meetings.
- Development Review Committee (DRC) - The DRC is comprised of the department managers, or their designees, from Growth Management, Planning, Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure, Traffic Engineering, and the Leon County School Board. The DRC reviews Type B site plans, subdivisions, deviations, and other applications. Their meeting schedule is provided online.
- Board of Adjustment and Appeals (BOAA) - The nine members of the BOAA are appointed by the City Commission and County Commission. The current membership of the BOAA is provided online. The BOAA reviews variance applications for 1 and 2 family residences, as well as variance applications for signs. They meet on the second Thursday of each month.
- Planning Commission - The Planning Commission makes a recommendation to the City Commission concerning whether proposed Zoning Code updates are consistent with the Comprehensive Plan. More information about the Planning Commission can be found online.
- City Commission - The City Commission approves all Zoning Code text changes and final plats for new subdivisions.
