What is a variance?
Sec. 1-2, TLDC defines a variance as follows: "A relaxation of the terms of the code or chapter involved where such variance will not be contrary to the public interest, and where, owing to conditions peculiar to the property and not the result of the actions of the applicant, a literal enforcement of the code involved would result in an unnecessary or unique hardship. No use variances are permitted." Keep in mind that the variance process only applies to single family homes, duplexes, and signs. If any other form of development seeks a change to a development standard, it must do so through the deviation process. You may file an application through the City's permit portal.
