How can I find out what the square footage of my home is?
You can find this information in two ways. First, if your home was built in the last 40 or so years, the building plans should list the square footage. Older building permits are sometimes less detailed, but it may still be worth a try. You can get your home's permit records through our Records Management staff. Scroll down to the link labeled "Online Records Request" and follow the prompts. Second, you can also get the square footage of your house at the Leon County Property Appraiser's website. At the right hand side of the screen, click "Search Property Records" and then click "Agree". You can then search their records by entering either the parcel identification number, the street address, or the owner's name. The next page will be a summary of the lot that you searched for. Scroll down until you see the "Building Summary" section, as shown below. That will provide the base square footage of the house (which is the primary residence) along with the auxiliary square footage (like a detached carport).
