Growth FAQ - Planning & Zoning
Is there a limit to how many people can live in a residence?
Yes, the Zoning Code defines a dwelling unit as follows: "A single room or unified combination of rooms, regardless of form of ownership, that is designed for residential use by one family." Further, the Zoning Code defines "family" as follows: "One natural person, or a group of two or more natural persons, living together and interrelated by bonds of blood, marriage or legal adoption, plus no more than two additional, unrelated natural persons, occupying the whole or part of a dwelling unit as a separate housekeeping unit." Therefore, there is no limit to the number of persons living in a residence if all of them are related by "bonds of blood, marriage, or legal adoption". However, no more than three unrelated persons may live together in a residence.
